Websites and marketing for businesses across Basildon, Billericay and Wickford.

One business in four in this borough is in construction, and a few very large employers sit alongside thousands of small firms. We’re based in Essex, we’ve worked with businesses here, and this page sets out what we’d do for yours.

DC Digital builds websites and runs SEO, Google Ads and social media for businesses in Basildon borough, which takes in Basildon, Laindon, Pitsea, Billericay and Wickford. We’re based in Essex and work across the UK. There’s no office to visit: when you’d like to meet, David comes to you. Past clients here include Kingswood Estate Agents and AP Mortgages.

The borough’s businesses in numbers

Basildon Council calls this the largest and fastest growing economy in Essex.[4] Here’s what the official counts show. ONS publishes them for the borough as a whole, not town by town, so that’s how we show them.

Figure
Registered businesses (VAT or PAYE)7,805 in 2026[1]
Micro businesses, 0 to 9 staff88.6% of them[1]
Businesses in construction2,050, or 26.3%. Essex County Council area 21.8%, England 14.1%[1]
Businesses with 250 or more staff30, out of 200 across the Essex County Council area[1]
Share of jobs in construction8.9% of about 90,000 jobs in 2024. England 5.0%[2]
Share of jobs in manufacturing8.9%. England 7.0%[2]
Working residents who took the train to work5.6% at Census 2021. England 2.0%[3]

What that means for your marketing

Two economies in one borough. Most firms here are small, and a lot of them build, fix or fit things. They win work from homeowners and other businesses who search, compare and ask around, so local search, a Google Business Profile and a website that turns a visit into a call do most of the work.

The other side is big business. The borough holds 15% of the Essex County Council area’s firms with 250 or more staff, against about 11% of its firms overall.[1] The council’s business pages name Ford Motor Company, New Holland Agriculture, Leonardo and Konica Minolta among them.[4] (None of them are our clients.) If you supply companies like these, your buyers are managers and procurement teams, not passers-by, and it pays to approach them directly rather than wait to be found.

A market that doesn’t stop at the boundary. c2c runs from Basildon, Laindon and Pitsea to Fenchurch Street, and Greater Anglia from Billericay and Wickford to Liverpool Street.[5] More than twice England’s share of working residents took the train to work at the 2021 Census, even with coronavirus restrictions in place.[3] Your customers and your competitors reach well beyond the borough, so say plainly which areas you cover.

How customers find businesses here

We searched Google for “builders basildon” from inside the borough on 14/10/2026.[6] Above the results sat a strip of five directory sites. Below it, a map with three local firms. Half of the first ten ordinary results were directories or listing sites, Checkatrade and 192.com among them.

So a local builder competes with directories for its own town’s search. Two places are within your control. The first is the map, where Google says results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence.[7] The second is your own website, which is where people land once a directory or a recommendation has sent them your way.

Word of mouth still counts. The borough has its own directors’ network, Basildon Business Leaders, running meetings and breakfasts for businesses from Pitsea to Wickford.[9] A recommendation made over breakfast still ends with someone looking you up.

What people search for, and what a click costs

SearchSearches a monthEstimated cost per click
plumber basildon590£10.33
roofers basildon320£3.28
electrician basildon260£10.03
builders basildon110£6.30
builders billericay90£2.08
builders wickford50£2.59

UK monthly average, September 2025 to August 2026, from Google Ads data via DataForSEO, pulled 14/10/2026.[8] Tool estimates, not a quote for what you’d pay.

Two things stand out. Estimated click costs run from about £2 to about £10 depending on the trade and the town, and the volumes are small enough that a loosely targeted campaign spends its budget fast. That’s why we set Google Ads budgets from what each enquiry costs, not from a round number.

Madisons / One build, many posts

Social media · Content

A Madisons kitchen and living space project in Billericay became a series of posts rather than one: the new layout, the kitchen, the steelwork, the lighting and the finishes, each told as its own story. Madisons is an Essex construction and fit-out firm we’ve worked with since 2022.

How we work with businesses in the borough

We’re based in Essex and work across the UK, so most of the work happens on calls, by email and in a monthly report that shows where your enquiries came from. When it helps to meet, we set a date and David comes to you, whether that’s a yard in Pitsea or your office in Billericay. You deal with David Cooper, the founder, from the first conversation.

Questions from businesses in the borough

All FAQs →

No. We’re based in Essex but don’t have an office open to visitors. The address in our footer is our registered office, a legal address for Companies House, not somewhere we work from or you can call in. When you’d like to meet, David comes to you.

Yes. Set a date and David will come to you, anywhere in the borough. Most of the work happens remotely in between, with a report every month, so a meeting is there when it’s genuinely useful.

Nobody can honestly promise you a place there. Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence.[7] We work on the parts you control: a complete and accurate Google Business Profile for your real address or service area, reviews from real customers, and a website that backs it all up.

It depends on the trade. Estimates for searches naming the borough’s towns run from about £2 for “builders billericay” to about £10 for plumbers and electricians.[8] We budget from what each enquiry costs. Management is from £500 a month plus VAT, with ad spend separate.

Yes. The six businesses listed above are past clients, and our Madisons case study tells the story of a project in Billericay. We don’t describe work we haven’t written up with the client.
