Websites and marketing for Witham businesses, from the station to the estates.
The council counts the town as the district’s second biggest centre of jobs,[5] and its station is used about three times as much as Braintree station.[4] We’re based in Essex, we’ve worked with businesses here, and this page sets out what the local numbers mean for your website and marketing.

DC Digital builds websites and runs SEO, Google Ads and social media for businesses in Witham, plus SendIQ outbound for firms that sell to other companies. We’re based in Essex and work across the UK, with no office to visit: when you’d like to meet, David comes to you. Past clients in the town include Career Crafters and 123 Easy Books.
The town in numbers
Set against Braintree district as a whole, the town has bigger workplaces, a bigger share of business services, and twice the share of people commuting by train.
| The town | For comparison: Braintree district, unless stated | |
|---|---|---|
| Residents, 2021 | 27,036 | 155,268[3] |
| Workplaces, 2026 | about 1,100 | 7,625[1] |
| Workplaces with 10 or more staff | about 19% | 14.5%[1] |
| Jobs (council figures) | 11,325 | Braintree town: 14,780[5] |
| Station entries and exits, April 2024 to March 2025 | 1.92 million | Braintree station: 0.63 million[4] |
| Employed residents who went to work mainly by train, 2021 | 4.5% | 2.2%[3] |
“The town” means the four Witham wards (Central, North, South and West), built from the 17 small statistical areas that the ONS ward lookup places in them. Workplace figures are rounded by ONS, so the town’s totals are approximate. Census 2021 was taken during pandemic restrictions, which ONS says affects travel to work figures.[1][3]
Why it changes the advice
More of the town’s workplaces serve other businesses. Compared with the district as a whole, a larger share of the town’s workplaces are in business administration and support (about 10% against 8%), information and communication (about 7% against 5%) and transport and storage (about 6% against 4%).[1] The council names Eastways and Freebournes as one of the district’s two largest clusters of employment land.[6] If your customers are other companies, they judge you on your website, your track record and how easily they can reach the right person, often before they’ve seen your premises.
Construction is still the biggest single group. Across Braintree district, 20.8% of registered businesses are in construction, against 14.1% across England, and 89% employ fewer than ten people.[2] Counted by workplace, construction is about 17% of the town against about 19% of the district.[1] For a builder or a trade, turning up when someone searches is part of winning work, so the basics carry a lot of weight: a fast site, an accurate Google Business Profile and real photographs of real jobs.

How many people search for local trades
On 14/10/2026 we checked how often people search for a range of trades and services alongside the town’s name.[7]
| Search (followed by the town’s name) | Searches a month | Advertiser competition |
|---|---|---|
| dentist | 1,000 | Medium |
| solicitors | 320 | High |
| estate agents | 320 | Medium |
| tyres | 320 | High |
| MOT | 260 | High |
| plumber | 170 | High |
| electrician | 70 | High |
| accountants | 40 | Medium |
| roofer | 30 | High |
| builders | 20 | High |
| bookkeeper | 10 | High |
Average searches a month across the UK from September 2025 to August 2026, taken from Google Ads data through DataForSEO. These are tool estimates. The competition column is Google’s own rating of how contested ad placement is for each term.[7]
Small pools, keen bidders
Most of these numbers are modest. A plumber who relied only on people typing the town’s name would be fishing in a pool of about 170 searches a month, and the competition rating says other advertisers are already in it.[7]
Two things follow. Your Google Business Profile service area and your Google Ads targeting should cover the places your customers actually are, which for many firms here reaches well beyond the town itself. And because the clicks are contested, Google Ads should be judged on what each genuine enquiry costs, not on how many people clicked.
Selling beyond the town
The station is the town’s link to the wider market. In the year to March 2025 it recorded 1.92 million entries and exits, about three times Braintree station’s figure, and London Liverpool Street was its most common origin or destination.[4] The council’s own strategy describes rail connections across the district as limited, “other than perhaps from Witham”.[5]
People use it to get to work. In 2021, 4.5% of employed residents in the town went to work mainly by train, about twice the district’s share.[3] The council’s figures also show people who live in the district earning more than people who work in it (a median £601.20 a week against £517.50 for full-time staff in 2021), which it reads as residents commuting out, to places such as Chelmsford, Colchester and London, for better-paid work.[5]
The practical question: where are your customers? If they’re along the A12 and the main line, or in London, most of them will never drive past your unit. Your website has to make the case on its own, and for a firm that sells to other businesses, waiting for enquiries may not be enough. That’s what SendIQ is for: it approaches the companies most likely to buy from you, wherever they are.

Past clients in the town and the district
In the town:
- Career Crafters, secondary education
- 123 Easy Books, bookkeeping
Elsewhere in Braintree district:
- Jack Arnold, Earls Colne
- Milbank Concrete Products, Earls Colne
They’re listed by name only. None of that work has been written up as a case study yet, so this page doesn’t describe it. The documented projects are on our work page.
Working together without an office here
Most of the day-to-day happens by phone and email, and every month you get a report on where your enquiries came from. If a meeting would help, pick a date and David Cooper, the founder, travels to you: an office, a unit on the estate or a site. He’s your contact from the first call onwards.
A fair point to raise before you call. A Google search for web design here puts a map of firms with addresses in the town at the top.[8] We’re not in it, because we don’t have an address here, and we’re not going to invent one. Putting your business in that map when your own customers search is separate work, and it’s part of what we do.
Questions worth asking first
No, and we don’t have an address in the town either. The registered office shown in our footer is the legal address Companies House holds, not a place we work from. We’re based elsewhere in Essex, most of the work is remote, and David travels to you when a meeting helps.
Yes. Career Crafters and 123 Easy Books, both in the town, are past clients, as are Jack Arnold and Milbank Concrete Products in Earls Colne. That work isn’t written up as a case study, so we only give the names.
Usually with the website, then outbound. If most of your buyers are outside the town, the site has to explain what you do and prove it without a visit. Once it does, SendIQ approaches the companies most likely to buy and sends them somewhere worth landing.
Yes, but in small numbers for most trades. Our data shows about 170 searches a month for a plumber and 320 for solicitors with the town’s name attached.[7] That’s why we set your service area and ad targeting around where your customers really are, not just the town.
